+ « Introducing Chloé Tallot …. What's the problem ? Her creations are built on intricate materials, such as her sensitive responses, and unconscious pulses, together with an option to hide nothing, but reveal her own discrepancies, versus the living world. All her sentiments are challenges betraying her own antagonism, physical or visual, against other bodies in daily life such as for instance, a naked woman in irrelevant attitudes. Who has authority over this scenery in which figures are entwined in an ultimate pattern ? Who can rule over one another? To replace them in a different order would mean replace the perspective of our own minds. The final views of this sequence suggest some kind of a possible victory for a free human mind.»

Video installation, 10 min., HDVD 16/9, color, sound, loop. Photography and video stills. Ed. 7+3AP.

+ « Ragazze is an installation made a of sound slide show and photographs.
In a tangle of references to the anatomic pieces of Leonardo da Vinci, the anthropometries of Yves Klein or the works of Araki, Ragazze is also a sophisticated product about the new possibilities of digital technology. The use of sound, color, slide show and overexposure or underexposure of the photographic definition plays with the codes of a previous work, the painting of Modigliani, which becomes a true living picture. The confrontation of photographs on the wall and real life pictures on the screen reveals the options offered to the artist, either by freezing the instant or by recreating a true living picture.
Le Nu au Coussin Blanc, 1917, by Modigliani, a young lady lying on a sofa, is the source of the project. In the center of the installation, the model is gradually fading out of the picture, no longer being the object of the artist's desire and dream and becoming the free subject of her own reality. Ragazze is the visual tale of this liberation. Here we have the wolves, the sleeping body, the crossing of the mirror, canceling all links and magic for a renewed heart. The heroine is successively tied, freed, immersed into chiaroscuro, or saturated by color, a physical and sensual body which becomes a screen revealing the impalpable states of consciousness.»

+ « Chloe Tallot's fascinating portrayal of four young French women who explain their thoughts on life and love. It sounds cheesy, but is totally absorbing.»
Monica Liau and Steph Wy Ng in Shanghai art reviews
+ « The modern woman as seen by Chloé Tallot is a versatile challenging creature, a vulnerable, naïve, sensual but idealistic and hybrid woman. This screen shows four black and white portraits of women taken in a long short-cut sequence inspired by Cassavetes Faces. The audience experiences the feeling of being confronted with the tormenting perpetual movement of life. With the video pattern the audience is immerged into the flux of sensations and feelings, whether ephemeral or real, which Chloé has intimately captured in a hypnotic film. Do not try to understand what is said or shown but let yourself be carried away by the light, the sound of the voices rising and answering each other. Accompanied by M83 music and Er!c B Young / Nuno dos Santos / Patrice Baumel from whom the title is borrowed, Her Dance is an overwhelming metaphor of a real dance into which we all dream to merge one day.»

+ Wounded Flowers takes the viewer on a journey through a flower field, with the camera zooming in on several subsequent flowers. During each zoom, the image of the flower gets distorted to the extent that it transforms into an abstract, wounded reality. The flowers become as fuzzy and imaginative as a child's drawing, but are also subject to children's tendency to destroy. From a different point of view the flowers, beautiful and vulnerable as children, lose their innocence along the way.

Installation, 2007, 200 photographs, mirrors attached in a combination of threads, tongs, rods, plexiglas, resin and sound.
+ In its frail, floating motion, it evokes one's childhood years in their budding promising cocoon, the future family tree. It is also a blurred first contact print with pictures hanging on spider silk in the photographer's lab, the whole sequence being indebted to Richard Avedon's bees, or Peter Pan and the dream world of Lord of the Flyes. It is a recurrence of the shifting visions of childhood which urge the adult mind to reminisce and apprehend the transient aura which shall crystallize with age.

Animale series shows a naked human body with an animal - fish, shellfish, insect, bird, reptile, etc... This is an imaginative game with the family tree of the animal species and the Darwin's theories. The combination of skins, fragile human skin and a range of animal skins, triggers an immediate physical sensation and evokes a powerful world. Animale series is a work on inner feelings, urges, relationships with others, and the resulting contradictions. These images evoke the tensions and dissipations that life generates. What is strong ? Weak ? Revolting ? Romantic ? Genetic ? What resonates personally when confronted with this mix ? Animale series is addressed to what is animal in each human being and explores the visceral responses to life - in the gut.
Photography, surimpressions. 3 photoreels, 2 min., 4/3, color, sound, loop. 7+3AP.

+ Sentimentale is the flip side of Animale series. In the same way as Animale investigates the instincts and what is organic, the Sentimentale is a work on interiority and feelings. Everything can therefore be suspended, ethereal, unreal. Like five songs or short stories, each sequence talks about heart and brain. The feelings are scientifically explained and combined with different organs of anatomy. Scientific drawings and photographic collage, each image becomes a page of an imaginary encyclopedia. The whole is thus an investigation of the feelings, a modern attempt at creating a Natural Sentimental History. The knots, the hopes and the prayers of the heart thus depicted, it generates confusion and brings this question.

+ Mail in India is very slow, here time is not as important as it is for us. It stretches, it swells… It is not worth much… Here are some stolen instants of my peregrination in this other world.

+ The French Cultural Services in Bandung have invited the multimedia artist Chloé Tallot as a resident at UK Maranatha University. The three stage display titled "Ego-Eco" shows how we are involved in a consumer society which is deteriorating. This display, on the floor, gives a visual picture of the deadlocks to which this society has come. The artist produced this work with the collaboration of the students from the University Art Department. It is a replica of Chloe's former project in the years 2004/2010 called "Femme d'intérieur". In the center of the triangular installation, one can see materials used in everyday life and realize how they gradually have decayed. We were born with consumer habits, in our seducing and nourishing supermarket, which is the temple of our desires. The end of the story leads to the non descript mess of our garbage which, after long cycles of disintegration and fermentation, will finally restore the inalienable rights of nature. In the middle of each picture, mirror of our frantic blindness, stands the human being, or rather what is left of him, a body devoured by his own egoism. If our moral comfort is ensured by our selfish detachment and tolerant hypocrisy, the paradise of consumer society is there to remain with us.

+ The multimedia artist Chloé Tallot and Gals Rock share their universe. Knives replace a frame, an imposing nude contrasts with a small video, the placement and suspension, the choice of diverse means of expression are the fruit of their collaboration. This usual meeting reveals bit by bit an unexpected atmosphere which is both intimate and oversized. The chosen works are as many traces on the initiative path followed by the artist. For nothing seems to be the same with Chloé, everything is inter related in a search for the association of opposites and going beyond differences. The variations abound, it jostles the onlooker, it questions the spirit and the heart is overtaken by the search for sincerity. Everything is a selection of photos, videos, drawings which are mixed together to reflect the diversity of expression of the artist who refuses the game of fools. An intimate atmosphere without concessions which Gals Rock has taken over until Jan.8th, 2011.

+ « Her door is completely hidden by stickers, her walls are covered by photos (including the fascinating, sublime and goosebumpy Serie Animale in which naked human bodies meet différent animals), and her shelves are full of notebooks, which sit patiently waiting for sketches glue and collage. A multimedia artist with an insatiable curiosity, interested in everything, especially freedom, Chloe Tallot has never stopped exploring new territory, observing, playing juggling, testing and collecting (voices, sounds and images), accompanied by her gentle sensibility, a lingering tenderness and a floating grace. We love her Ceci est du verre, in which photographs on glass become tabletops, and Femmes d'intérieur, video, in which naked women pop up surrounded by supermarket products. »

« It could be the name of a girl's band. Except that these three artists don't work together and are involved in visual arts. They have nevertheless many things in common as is revealed through their portfolio. Chloé Tallot, Zoë Mendelson and Camille Henrot, in their thirties, belong to the same generation. They work on the transfer of images. (...) And what if the red thread that ties these three universes, was to relate stories about desire? »
Between fauna and flora
Animale photographic series by Chloé Tallot, offers settings inspired by the naturalist Charles Darwin's theories. Animal skins, bird feathers, small fish, shell-fish, reptiles, jelly-fish are grafted on a naked body until they become one. How can you distinguish the human from the animal in these fusional joining of bodies ? What is the essence of femininity and that of masculinity? Chloé Tallot covers exhaustively these questions by indulging in sensual experiments. The models, female or male, are caught and fixed in their uncouthness. Before them the beholder hesitates between disgust and seduction. And it is certainly when indecision is at its highest point that Chloé Tallot's work is the most interesting. Amongst the most significant images, one will retain a woman with medusa hair and black blood tears. A heroine coming out of the water, gorgon or mermaid, beautiful and repelling at the same time. »

+ « Chloe Tallot is a multi media artist whose central concern is the animal in all of us. This concern is evident the moment you arrive on the third floor. You enter the exhibition through a door plastered with post it notes, photos and a mosaic of unrelated images. From the start Chloe Tallot involves you in her poetry which seems at first sight to be completely disorganized. But her flat is impeccably tide with her note pad and computer screen neatly set out on a glass table top.
"As an artist I use all media available, since what matters is the message. As well as being an artist and a draughtsman Michaelangelo was an architect. It's the ultimate artist's dream. The heart of Chloe's research is exploring the artistic possibilities of new technology. This research resulted in 2003 and 2005 in the two series of photographs Animale and Sentimentale.
The photos in these two series were taken with maximum, but not over exposure. Then I reworked the pixels that are the basic material of the photos to get the effect I want. With the new machines and techniques that are becoming available the possibilities are endless, just like the infinite world that Chloe has been putting under her looking glass since her childhood in Morocco. "There I used to arrange all the anthills by size and by behavior. I liked watching insects through the magnifying glass, and I still carry around inside me this fascination for the animal world.
In Animale Chloe faces up to the violence in all of us and that Darwin brought to light. The art of Chloe Tallot suggests that under an outer façade we retain the vestiges of the insects and animals that were our forbears. The animal in us has not disappeared entirely. But Chloe's world is not black or white for she finds her inspiration as much in the imaginary as in the real world, and the images she conjures up flow naturally from her imaginings.
"I prepare my installations first and the compositions follow spontaneously. After that I have to make sense of it all" On the computer I work on the colours, the strength of the texture and the background. The beauty that emanates from this process is delicately controlled and there is no desire to shock.
Chloe is always on the job, filling her sketchbooks, filling page after page with drawings, photographing everyday events with her Leica.
In her Ragazze project which she worked on while she was artist in residence at St Barthélémy in 2005 and held an exhibition there, she created a diaporama inspired by Modigliani. It was an ode to modern woman and her desires, rather than an object manipulated by male artists.»

+ « The world of Chloé Tallot is made of photography, paintings, illustrations and collages, bodies, skins and animals. The dark and inner sides of life do not scare her, and the wonderful trips she takes always lead to unequaled travelling note books. Chloé Tallot's life is like an anthology of poems in itself, some are odes to love, and others recall the spleen of one night, the purity of a sensation, an intelligible introspection. éTallot faces the power of words and their evocation, strengthening her pictures with dignity and respectful convictions. »

« In her Animale sequence (see Vulnérable 1, 2, 3) Chloé Tallot shows human figures in close embraces with animals, suggesting our unconscious appeals. The Sentimentale sequence associates some scientific patterns and photographic collages of bodies and moods, creating another dreamworld. Chloé Tallot conjures up an elaborate investigation of our moods and neurosis. »

+ Chloé Tallot (born 1973, France) is a french contemporary artist whose medium is video, photography, drawings and installations. She studied art at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, Paris from 1996 to 1999. She also studied literature at Lycée Pasteur and Sorbonne, Paris. She lives and works in Paris.
Ever since her childhood, she has been intimately involved in exploring images, colors, shapes, words, sounds and all materials. Her visual production today is an instinctive and playful mix of collages and digital technologies. Her mental world is pregnant with her varied experiences including dream, passion, sex, poetry, encounters and discoveries. Thus her creation is fostered by her own reflection of feelings which are to be the intimate pulse of her own generation.
